Case Study: Mr L

December 4, 2025 11:29 am

The applicant is a single parent with two dependent children. His income consists of Universal Credit including the Local Housing Allowance, Child Benefit and Council Tax Support.

He previously shared custody with his ex-partner. However, following her arrest and imprisonment, he assumed full-time custody, which required him to leave his full-time job to care for his children. The transition to full-time caregiving, coupled with his mental health challenges, has led to a significant reduction in income. This has made it difficult for him to keep up with utility payments and other essential expenses.

He is receiving budgeting support from his local Citizens Advice to help him manage his finances more effectively and maintain ongoing payments. He is also scheduled to attend a GP appointment to seek further mental health support.

He has been facing significant personal and financial challenges. Over the past year, his circumstances have changed drastically, impacting his ability to manage essential responsibilities, including maintaining payments for his water services. His advisor shares, the support from the Trust will go a long way and enable him to have a more affordable payment plan set up for his ongoing charges.

Outcome: Water grant approved for £233 and Back on Track discount applied to account
