Case Study: Miss B

October 5, 2026 11:44 am

Miss B lives alone in privately rented accommodation, and she receives her retirement pension, pension credit and personal independence payment for both care and mobility.

Miss B is facing financial difficulties related to water charges and appliance replacements following significant damage from a house fire in August 2025, which affected her kitchen appliances, cupboards, and worksurfaces. She has significant health and mobility issues and is undergoing palliative chemotherapy. She has also experienced fraudulent activity with her finances, struggles with debt including bailiff demands, and additional expenses from laundry and travel for medical appointments.

A recommendation was put forward to Trustees to ask for approval to purchase her two appliances (washing machine and a tumble dryer). Her Carer currently makes 2 trips to the launderette every week as the applicant suffers from incontinence and is also undergoing palliative chemotherapy. The request was swiftly approved by Trustees via email.

Outcomes: Water grant approved for £569, and we also purchased a washing machine and a tumble dryer
